Bring your dancing shoes or just sit back and listen.
The Sunset Stomp Jazz Band was born in June of 2010. A 7 piece plus vocalist ensemble performing the music of the “Jazz Age”. “The band emerged from a concert Kathleen and I put together for the Indianapolis Jazz Club in the fall of 2009.” says Hopkins. The name came from Louis Armstrong’s “Sunset Cafe Stomp”, which came from the Sunset Cafe on Chicago’s south side, where Louis Armstrong played before going on to New York.
They performing regularly at The Jazz Kitchen as part of the Tuesday night swing dancing series, the emphasis has been Fun! dance tempos, as well as exciting ensemble and solo work from a group of great musicians. “Focused on the upbeat “Danceable Dixie” tempos of the Twenties and Thirties has been great fun for us to see the great response from the swing dance community and hope that together, we can keep these two great American traditions alive and well in Indianapolis for a long time to come.”
