Acclaimed Grammy Winning trumpet player Nicholas
Payton performs with his band celebrating Miles
Davis’ birthday. Heavily influenced by Miles, Mr.
Payton is fond of breaking down barriers and
celebrates Miles’ legacy each time he picks up his
trumpet. And like Miles, his voice is singularly unique.
Payton will perform with a bassist and drummer and,
multi-instrumentalist that he is, will also play fender
rhodes as well as trumpet. Expect to hear new songs
from Payton’s vast repertoire including some from his
un-released cd, Bitches. This is sure to be a sensual
feast with a big helping of straight-ahead fire.nicholaspayton.com
Even though New Orleans native trumpeter Nicholas Payton had already performed with jazz legends Joe Henderson, Clark Terry, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Smith and others, he was barely into his 20’s when became a band-leader and made his major label recording debut. Now Payton is the brightest among a new generation of trumpeters who pay homage to the classic sounds of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis while exploring new and contemporary sounds near the boundaries of jazz.
Nicholas Payton is the embodiment of every trumpet player who came before him, and he leads the way for all who follow. Hailed as a virtuoso before he was even out of high school, his maturation as a prodigious talent has earned him praise as one of the most important artists of our time.
